Brace sizing & measurement guide

The right size depends on the exact brace. Measure first, then compare your measurements with that model's manufacturer size chart. There is no universal small, medium or large across all braces.

    Before you measure

    • Have a flexible measuring tape and the product's size chart ready.
    • Check whether the chart uses inches or centimeters and record the exact measurement.
    • Follow the model's directions for measurement location, posture and whether to measure over clothing.
    • If you are between sizes, ask for model-specific advice instead of automatically choosing a larger or smaller size.

    Knee supports

Knee products may use different measurements: the knee itself, or the thigh and calf at specific distances from the kneecap. Use the measurement points on the exact product's chart.

    Back supports

A support belt may be sized using waist, hip or torso circumference. Clothing size is not a substitute for the measurement required by the manufacturer.

    Wrist & thumb supports

Check wrist circumference, hand orientation and whether the model supports the thumb. Verify whether the brace is right-handed, left-handed or reversible.

    Ankle supports

Ankle models may use ankle circumference, heel circumference or shoe size. Check the specific measurement method and whether the brace is intended to fit inside your footwear.

    Elbow supports

Sleeves and straps can use different measurements around the elbow or forearm. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the arm position and measuring point.

    Shoulder & posture supports

Check torso measurements, side of the body, and strap adjustment range. Ask a clinician about supports intended for an injury or postoperative use.
